Solway Precast selected to supply to the Scottish National Arena and Velodrome

New sports facilities will be used for the Commonwealth Games in 2014

Solway Precast is supplying the precast concrete terraces to both the National Arena and Velodrome for the new projects in Glasgow which will form a major part of the facilities being used for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The precast concrete units include terrace raking beams, terrace units steps and vomitory walls.  There are two arenas - the cycle velodrome and sports arena.  The sports arena is a multi-purpose facility with the permanent viewing gallery raised around three metres above the sports floor.  The terraces are supported on precast concrete raking beams which are typically 25 tonnes in mass and are supported on insitu columns and the main structural frame.

The precast terraces are dowelled to the main rakers and the precast walls are secured to the main frame and terracing units using steel angle cleats.  The connection design of the steel fixing cleats and temporary supports was designed by our in-house design department.  The design drawings were also prepared in-house using the latest draughting software packages.
