Barr Quarries provides a solid foundation for Arecleoch Wind Farm

Barr Delivers to one of Scotland's largest onshore wind farms

Arecleoch Wind Farm, for Scottish Power Renewables is Scotland's fourth largest onshore wind farm.

The site covers an area of approximately 39km2 to the south west of Barrhill, located within forestry areas around the highest local point of Strawarren Fell.  The wind farm comprises of 60 wind turbine generators capable of generating an output of up to 120MW and will provide electricity for thousands of homes.

Barr Quarries partnered with the main contractor to successfully supply and deliver concrete and aggregates to the project.  This required detailed planning to ensure consistent delivery to the extensive construction site.

Concrete supplies commenced October 2009.  Excellent service was critical to the success of the contract particularly on large pours to the turbine bases.  Credit must be given to the supply and delivery teams involved from site engineers and work crews, batchers, drivers, quarry managers and distribution staff who pulled out all the stops to ensure that all went smoothly.

The contract is an excellent example of supply and delivery teams working together to ensure successful delivery of the project for the client.

This contract has further enhanced Barr Quarries already excellent reputation in supplying similar wind farm projects previously and recently undertaken, including:

  • Markhill
  • North Rhinns
  • Hadyardhill
  • Millourhill
  • Moniaive
  • Douglas
