Community & the environment

Barr Environmental keeps the communities local to its sites up-to-date with its development plans through local liaison meetings, newsletters and public open days.  Most recently, a Visitors’ Day was held at Garlaff to provide local residents with an insight as to what happens at a modern waste management facility.

The day included tours around the site, displays and presentations on different aspects of waste operations and information on future plans.

The waste management industry has historically been viewed as a potential environmental liability and a nuisance to communities.  However, when carried out in a responsible manner, the management of wastes constitutes one of the most important ways in which a more sustainable future can be achieved.  In addition, some practices can actually enhance the quality of the environment in a particular area.
